In an extraordinary show of endurance and dedication, 24-year-old Leodhais Macpherson from Tynemouth is running 128 marathons in 128 consecutive days. This incredible challenge honours the memory of his older brother, Conor, who tragically died by suicide in 2018 at just 21 years old. Leodhais’s ambitious journey spans 3,332 miles, the equivalent distance from Newcastle to New York, a city Conor had always dreamed of calling home.

The challenge began on January 25 and will conclude on June 2, which would have marked Conor's 28th birthday. Remarkably, Leodhais balances this gruelling physical endeavour alongside his full-time role as an environmental coordinator at EDF Energy. Each day, he starts with a half-marathon at 4:45 am, works from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and then completes another half-marathon in the evening. Sustaining this rigorous schedule demands immense physical stamina, careful planning, and an intake of approximately 6,000 calories daily.
Running has become more than just a physical pursuit for Leodhais, it has evolved into a vital therapeutic outlet. Having competed in running since the age of 12, he found it difficult to continue after losing Conor. Over time, however, running provided Leodhais with both solace and purpose, helping him process his grief while advocating for mental health awareness.
The local community has rallied around Leodhais’s inspirational journey, regularly joining him on his daily runs along the North Tyneside coast. Local businesses have also shown their support, providing practical assistance such as recovery massages. His fundraising efforts have significantly exceeded expectations, with more than £50,000 raised for the RNLI and the If U Care Share Foundation, organisations that provided vital support during Conor’s disappearance and in the difficult times afterward.
Leodhais meticulously documents his daily runs on Strava, shares regular updates on TikTok, and actively engages with supporters across social media. His transparency and dedication continue to inspire others, highlighting the profound importance of community support and open conversations around mental health.
As Leodhais nears the final stretch of his monumental challenge, his story serves as a powerful testament to resilience, brotherly love, and the capacity to turn personal tragedy into a source of inspiration and positive change.
